St. Louis Cardinals News & Updates

MILWAUKEE — Freddy Peralta delivered a strong performance, striking out six batters over six innings while allowing just one run, as the Milwaukee Brewers edged out the St. Louis Cardinals with a 3-2 victory on Friday night.

Peralta, now 6-4, retired the Cardinals in order through the first three innings before giving up four hits and a walk later in his outing.

The loss marked the seventh consecutive defeat for St. Louis, dropping them 1 1/2 games behind second-place Milwaukee and six games back of first-place Chicago in the NL Central division standings.

St. Louis scored their only run against Peralta in the fifth inning. Alec Burleson and Nolan Arenado opened the frame with consecutive doubles to get the Cardinals on the board.

Cardinals starter Erick Fedde (3-6) also faced the minimum through three innings. Milwaukee’s first hit came in the fourth when Sal Frelick led off with a single that struck Fedde on the left wrist.

After being checked by the training staff, Fedde remained in the game. William Contreras put Milwaukee on the scoreboard in the same inning with an RBI double.

The Brewers took the lead in the sixth, starting the inning with back-to-back singles. Contreras then hit a sacrifice fly, which ended Fedde’s night.

Milwaukee added another run in the sixth when Christian Yelich reached on a fielder’s choice.

Jared Koenig and Abner Uribe provided two scoreless innings in relief for Milwaukee before the Cardinals attempted a rally in the ninth. Victor Scott hit an RBI single off closer Trevor Megill to cut the deficit to a single run, but the Brewers held on for the win.
