The Tampa Bay Rays showcased their offensive firepower in an 8-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night in West Sacramento. Brandon Lowe and Junior Caminero each hit two-run home runs to spark the Rays' scoring and secure a key win on the road.
The Rays wasted no time getting on the board, with Junior Caminero, Josh Lowe, and Jake Mangum all recording RBI in the top of the first inning. The strong start was further aided when Mangum scored on a throwing error, putting Tampa Bay ahead early.
Brandon Lowe delivered a decisive blow in the second inning, launching his 24th home run of the season—a two-run shot off Athletics starter J.T. Ginn. Lowe’s homer helped the Rays break the game open, extending the lead to 6-0.
Starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen continued his stellar season for the Rays, working six innings on the mound. Rasmussen earned his 10th win of the season and reached double digits in victories for just the second time in his career. Although Lawrence Butler ended Rasmussen’s AL-best scoreless streak at 17 1/3 innings with a two-run homer in the third, the right-hander held the Athletics offense in check and avoided further damage.
Before Butler’s home run, Rasmussen had not allowed an extra-base hit in his previous four starts.
Athletics starter J.T. Ginn struggled against Tampa Bay’s lineup, allowing six hits and six runs—five earned—over just two innings. The Rays capitalized on Ginn’s troubles, building a comfortable lead that the Athletics were unable to overcome.
Junior Caminero capped the scoring for the Rays with a two-run home run in the ninth inning, putting the game well out of reach. The victory secured Tampa Bay's first road series win over Oakland since May 2022 at the Oakland Coliseum.
Brandon Lowe's two-run home run in the second inning extended the Rays' lead and set the tone for a dominant performance by Tampa Bay.
The Rays clinched their first road series win against the Athletics since May 2-4, 2022.
Both teams will have a day off on Thursday. The Athletics return to action Friday night, hosting the Los Angeles Angels with Jack Perkins scheduled to start against Yusei Kikuchi. The Rays head to San Francisco to face the Giants, with Joe Boyle set to take on Landen Roup.
The Tampa Bay Rays dominated the Oakland Athletics with a combination of timely hitting and strong pitching. Key home runs from Brandon Lowe and Junior Caminero, along with a solid performance from Drew Rasmussen, led the Rays to an 8-2 victory and their first road series win over the Athletics since 2022. With momentum on their side, the Rays continue their road trip as both teams prepare for their upcoming matchups on Friday night.
