Zac Gallen delivered another outstanding performance, pitching six scoreless innings to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 2-0 victory over the Texas Rangers. With this win, the Diamondbacks continued their strong run, having secured six wins in their last eight games.
Gallen improved to an 11-13 record, scattering four hits over six innings and fanning five Rangers without issuing a walk. This latest effort reflects his recent success; over his last six starts, Gallen holds a 3-1 record with an impressive 2.57 ERA. His consistency was on full display as he navigated through difficult spots, stranding runners on the corners in the first inning and leaving two more runners on base in the fifth. Across his last four starts, Gallen has allowed just four runs in 24 innings pitched.
Arizona capitalized on early opportunities against Texas starter Jack Leiter, collecting two runs in the first two innings. Gabriel Moreno delivered a key run-scoring single in the first, while a fielding error by Rangers first baseman Jake Burger in the second allowed another run to cross the plate, ending Texas’ franchise-record streak of 19 errorless games.
Leiter, who entered the game on the heels of two consecutive wins, was able to regroup after the early damage. He surrendered two runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings and struck out eight, but received little offensive support from his teammates. The Rangers struggled to generate scoring chances, ultimately being held scoreless.
The Arizona bullpen, featuring five different pitchers, protected the slim lead through the late innings. Jake Woodford closed out the ninth to earn his third save, working around a walk to secure the shutout.
In the seventh inning, reliever John Curtiss stepped up in a critical spot. After a runner reached third base due to an interference call involving shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, Curtiss induced an inning-ending groundout from Josh Smith, maintaining the Diamondbacks’ two-run advantage.
Corbin Carroll extended his on-base streak to 21 games, matching the second-longest stretch of his career, a testament to his consistency and value at the top of the Arizona lineup.
The Rangers turn to right-hander Merrill Kelly (11-7, 3.24 ERA) as they begin a three-game series against the Houston Astros on Friday. The Diamondbacks will send left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (6-8, 5.40 ERA) to the mound for the opening game of their own three-game set against the Boston Red Sox.
The Arizona Diamondbacks relied on dominant pitching by Zac Gallen and a strong bullpen to notch a 2-0 win over the Texas Rangers. Early offensive execution, coupled with error-free fielding and a standout relief effort, helped Arizona build momentum as they aim to solidify their playoff aspirations. For the Texas Rangers, the defeat pushes them two games back in the American League wild card race, underscoring the importance of upcoming series as the playoff push intensifies.
