Minnesota Twins News & Updates

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros defeated the Minnesota Twins 10-3 on Friday night, June 13, 2025, behind strong offensive performances from Jose Altuve and rookie Jacob Melton, who each drove in three runs.

The Astros offense jumped on Twins starter Chris Paddack early in the game.

Paddack (2-6) struggled significantly, tying career highs by allowing 12 hits and nine runs — eight earned — in just four innings. This marks his third consecutive loss.

Houston rookie starter Colton Gordon (2-1) delivered a solid outing, giving up six hits and two runs with five strikeouts over a career-high six innings to earn the win.

Offensively for the Astros, Jeremy Peña tied a season-high with four hits, and rookie Cam Smith contributed two hits and two RBI. The win extended the AL West-leading Astros' winning streak to three games.

For the Twins, Willi Castro, Royce Lewis, and Ty France each hit solo home runs. However, the team suffered its third blowout loss in four games, following heavy defeats to Texas earlier in the week (16-4 and 16-3).

A concerning moment for Minnesota occurred in the ninth inning when Royce Lewis, who recently returned from a hamstring strain, pulled up while running to first base on a single. He was replaced by a pinch-runner, and there was no immediate update on his injury status.

The Astros established their lead early. With the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning, Cam Smith hit a two-run single to center field, giving Houston a 2-0 advantage. Jacob Melton followed with a single to right field to drive in another run.

Houston continued to score in the second inning. With runners on first and third and one out, Jose Altuve's double scored two runs, extending the lead to 5-0.

The Twins threatened in the third, loading the bases with two outs, but Carlos Correa grounded out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Melton hit a two-run triple with no outs, pushing the lead to 7-0. A sacrifice fly by Mauricio Dubón brought the score to 8-0.

Minnesota got on the board in the fourth with Willi Castro's two-out solo home run.

Jose Altuve responded immediately by homering to left-center to start the bottom of the fourth, making it 9-1.

Cam Smith’s two-RBI single in the first inning that gave Houston the lead they would not relinquish.
