The scheduled MLB game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night, June 18, 2025, was postponed due to inclement weather.
Heavy rain impacted the Detroit area early Wednesday afternoon, and with a forecast predicting significant storms throughout the evening, the decision was made to call off the game approximately two hours before the scheduled 5:40 p.m. first pitch.
The postponed game will now be played as part of a split doubleheader on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m. ET, followed by the second game at 5:40 p.m. ET.
The doubleheader is expected to feature two of baseball's top starting pitchers, Detroit's Tarik Skubal and Pittsburgh's Paul Skenes, though they will not face each other directly.
Tarik Skubal (7-2, 1.99 ERA) is scheduled to start the first game for the Tigers. He will go against Pittsburgh left-hander Andrew Heaney (3-5, 3.33).
Paul Skenes (4-6, 1.78 ERA) is expected to pitch the second game for the Pirates. He will face a Tigers opener in the nightcap.
