MILWAUKEE – The Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 10-3 on July 30, 2025, avoiding a three-game sweep at American Family Field. Michael Busch led off the game with a home run, and Moisés Ballesteros contributed with a bases-clearing double.
Milwaukee leads Chicago by one game in the NL Central standings. The teams are scheduled to meet once more this season for a five-game series in Chicago from August 18-21.
Ian Happ also homered for the Cubs. Pete Crow-Armstrong had a standout performance, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, while Kyle Tucker contributed with two hits and two RBIs.
For the Brewers, William Contreras had his fifth career two-homer game, marking a significant offensive output after hitting just one home run since May 23.

Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta (12-5), who had previously won his last seven starts, took the loss after giving up a season-high five runs in four innings.
Busch started the game strong, hitting a 388-foot home run to right field for his 21st homer of the season on the very first pitch. William Contreras responded for the Brewers in the bottom of the first with his first home run since June 14, following it up with an opposite-field shot to right to lead off the fourth inning.
The Cubs extended their lead with three runs in the sixth inning and added two more in the ninth to secure the victory.
A crucial moment came in the third inning when Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a grounder that glanced off the glove of diving second baseman Brice Turang, resulting in a double that made the score 2-1. Later in the same inning, Moisés Ballesteros delivered a three-run double to further extend the Cubs' lead.
Despite the loss, Freddy Peralta achieved a personal milestone, striking out three batters in the game to reach 1,083 career strikeouts. This mark moves him past Teddy Higuera (1,081) for third place in Brewers franchise history. He now trails only Yovani Gallardo (1,226) and Ben Sheets (1,206) on the all-time list.
The Chicago Cubs will host Baltimore on Friday, with Cade Horton (4-3, 3.67 ERA) slated to pitch in the series opener. The Milwaukee Brewers will welcome Washington, with José Quintana (7-4, 3.50 ERA) scheduled to start against Mitchell Parker (7-10, 4.91 ERA) for the Nationals.
