The Chicago White Sox continued their hot streak with a 7-5 win against the Detroit Tigers, marking their sixth consecutive victory. Colson Montgomery led the charge for Chicago, homering and driving in four runs to propel his team to another strong performance at Comerica Park.
Montgomery wasted no time, delivering an RBI single in the first inning to give the White Sox an early lead. He continued to make his presence felt with a run-scoring groundout in the fifth and capped off his night with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, his 18th of the season.
Kyle Teel added to Chicago's tally with an RBI single in the third inning, making it 2-0. Detroit responded as Parker Meadows, fresh off the injured list, tied the game with a two-run homer in his first at-bat. The fourth inning saw Will Robertson put the White Sox up 3-2, but a wild sequence in the bottom of the inning gave Detroit the lead. A wild pitch resulted in both runners scoring after a collision at the plate, shifting momentum to the Tigers.
Chicago tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth on Montgomery's RBI groundout, then took the lead for good in the sixth thanks to Andrew Benintendi's homer. Montgomery's two-run shot in the seventh extended the cushion to three runs.
Detroit threatened in the eighth with two runners on and one out, but reliever Jordan Leasure extinguished the rally by retiring Zach McKinstry and Dillon Dingler. Leasure also closed out the ninth to earn his seventh save of the year.
White Sox starter Shane Smith (5-7) took the win, allowing four runs over five innings. Detroit's Jack Flaherty gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings. The White Sox scored in six of the game's first seven innings, a testament to their consistent offensive pressure.
The series continues Saturday night, featuring a matchup between Detroit ace Tarik Skubal (12-4, 2.18 ERA) and Chicago’s Martin Pérez (1-3, 2.16 ERA).
The Chicago White Sox secured a 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers, powered by Colson Montgomery's four RBIs and strong offensive output throughout the game. The White Sox have now won six straight games, while the Tigers continue to struggle, winning just three of their last eleven. Strong bullpen work and key hits in crucial moments solidified Chicago's impressive team effort as they prepare for the next matchup of the MLB series.
