Isaac Collins delivered a thrilling finish for the Milwaukee Brewers, launching a solo home run off New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz in the bottom of the ninth inning, sealing a 7-6 walk-off victory at American Family Field. The Brewers, currently holding the best record in Major League Baseball, extended their winning streak to nine games with this dramatic comeback.
The Brewers found themselves in a 5-0 hole early, as the Mets scored in each of the first four innings. New York opened strong with RBI singles by Juan Soto and Jeff McNeil in the first inning. Brett Baty added a solo home run to start the second, and Ronny Mauricio drove in another run in the third. Cedric Mullins continued the offensive outburst in the fourth with his 16th home run, giving the Mets a commanding advantage.
Despite starter Quinn Priester, who had won ten straight decisions, struggling on the mound for Milwaukee and surrendering six runs on 10 hits in just 4 1/3 innings, the Brewers rallied. William Contreras homered twice, sparking a three-run fourth inning and narrowing the gap further with a two-run shot in the fifth. Joey Ortiz added a crucial two-out RBI single in the eighth, tying the game at 6-6.
With the game tied in the ninth, reliever Nick Mears worked a scoreless inning for the Brewers. In the bottom half, Collins stepped up and blasted a 2-2 pitch from Diaz 363 feet to right field for his eighth home run of the season, igniting celebrations in Milwaukee.
The loss marked the Mets’ seventh straight defeat, pushing them 5 1/2 games behind the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies. Despite strong performances from their offense, the bullpen couldn't hold back Milwaukee's relentless comeback.
One turning point came in the seventh inning. With Brewers runners on first and third and one out, Mets reliever Tyler Rogers induced an inning-ending double play from Andrew Vaughn, squashing what could have been a go-ahead rally for Milwaukee at the time.
Quinn Priester’s streak ended Saturday. He suffered his first loss in 12 appearances (including nine starts) since May 13, allowing six runs and 10 hits in just 4 1/3 innings.
The Brewers look to keep their momentum, sending Freddy Peralta (13-5, 3.03 ERA) to the mound Monday against Pirates left-hander Andrew Heaney (5-9, 4.77 ERA). The Mets have a day off before returning home to host the Atlanta Braves for a three-game series.
The Milwaukee Brewers showcased resilience and power with a 7-6 walk-off win over the New York Mets, thanks to Isaac Collins’ game-winning home run. Despite a tough start from Quinn Priester, the Brewers rallied back, highlighted by two home runs from William Contreras and clutch late-inning hits. The Brewers' nine-game winning streak keeps them atop MLB standings, while the Mets look to regroup after dropping their seventh consecutive game.
