The Texas Rangers secured a thrilling 8-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Monday night, extending their home win streak to seven games. The dramatic finish came in the 10th inning when Josh Jung launched a three-run home run, sealing the win for Texas after a late-game comeback.
Josh Jung's clutch three-run homer in the 10th inning was the decisive blow, coming after the Yankees intentionally walked Wyatt Langford with two outs. Jung's 11th home run of the season traveled 401 feet to left-center and ignited celebrations at Globe Life Field.
Before Jung’s heroics, Joc Pederson delivered a pinch-hit, game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning. Despite batting just .132, Pederson blasted a 408-foot shot to keep the Rangers alive. The memorable homer was his first since May 17 and came in just his eighth appearance since returning from a right hand fracture.
Danny Coulombe earned his first win as a Texas Ranger, pitching the 10th inning in only his third game with the club since arriving at the trade deadline. A key defensive moment in extra innings came when Coulombe fielded Austin Wells' comebacker to start an inning-ending double play, helping the Rangers escape trouble and set the stage for the walk-off win.
The Yankees took an early lead with Paul Goldschmidt smashing a leadoff home run—New York’s ninth leadoff home run this season, just behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Goldschmidt scored three times throughout the game.
All-Star left-hander Max Fried took the mound for New York, giving up four runs and eight hits over five innings but left the game with a 5-4 lead. Giancarlo Stanton added a two-run homer in the fourth to push the Yankees ahead, but a late bullpen collapse ultimately cost the game.
Fried threw 105 pitches, striking out seven, but allowed six consecutive Rangers to reach base in a difficult second inning, including an errant pickoff attempt that allowed a run to score. The loss marks the Yankees’ fourth straight defeat and ended Fried’s quest for a league-best 13th win.
With this win, the Rangers have prevailed in 12 of their last 15 home games and rebounded from a challenging 2-5 road trip. The Yankees, meanwhile, have now been swept in a three-game series on the road and may soon welcome Aaron Judge back from injury as they look to recover momentum.
Nathan Eovaldi (9-3, 1.49 ERA) will start for the Rangers on Tuesday, coming off a dominant July where he posted a 0.59 ERA. His last loss came in May against the Yankees. The Yankees will send Will Warren (6-5, 4.64 ERA) to the mound as they aim to bounce back in the series.
The Texas Rangers staged a late-game comeback to defeat the New York Yankees 8-5 in extra innings, highlighted by pivotal home runs from Joc Pederson and Josh Jung. The win extends Texas’s home dominance, while the Yankees continue to struggle on their current road trip. Both teams now turn their focus to the next matchup, featuring a promising pitching duel as the series continues.
