The Minnesota Twins powered past the Detroit Tigers 9-4 in an afternoon MLB matchup, led by an impressive offensive performance from Luke Keaschall. Keaschall drove in three runs for the second straight game and continues his outstanding start to his major league career. In just nine games, albeit interrupted earlier in the season by a broken arm, Keaschall is hitting .393 and has made an immediate impact upon his return, including four hits and six RBIs in his first two games back in the lineup.
Minnesota jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Alan Roden and Matt Wallner both singled to start the game. Keaschall delivered a two-out double to drive both in, building on the momentum from his three-RBI night the previous day. The Twins added another run in the second when Brooks Lee scored on a wild pitch, extending the lead to 3-0.
Detroit’s offense responded with a power surge. Spencer Torkelson clubbed his 24th home run in the bottom of the second to get the Tigers on the board, and Zach McKinstry’s leadoff homer in the third cut the deficit further. Later in the inning, Kerry Carpenter smashed a two-run shot to briefly put Detroit ahead 4-3.
Brooks Lee answered with a home run of his own in the fourth to tie the game. In the fifth, the Twins regained the lead as Ryan Jeffers and Keaschall drove in runs with doubles to make it 6-4. Minnesota’s offense wasn’t done, with Austin Martin and Alan Roden both homering in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Thomas Hatch, recently claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Royals, was a difference-maker out of the bullpen for the Twins. He worked 4 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win, moving his record to 1-0. Jack Flaherty took the loss for Detroit after allowing six runs in 4 2/3 innings.
The Tigers threatened in the eighth with runners on first and third and one out, bringing the heart of their order to the plate. Twins reliever Kody Funderburke induced a clutch inning-ending double play from pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones, squashing Detroit’s hopes of a comeback.
Keaschall’s hot start has him reaching base in his first nine career MLB games. This marks the second-longest such streak in Twins franchise history, trailing only Glenn Williams, who reached safely in his first 13 games in 2005.
Both teams have Thursday off before beginning new home series on Friday. The Twins will send ace right-hander Joe Ryan (10-5, 2.83 ERA) to the mound against the Kansas City Royals, while the Tigers’ All-Star lefty Tarik Skubal (11-3, 2.18 ERA) is set to face the Los Angeles Angels.
The Minnesota Twins claimed a 9-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on August 6, 2025, thanks to another standout game from Luke Keaschall. Keaschall’s three RBIs and a strong showing from the Twins’ bullpen powered the team to their second consecutive win. Minnesota’s offensive depth, highlighted by key home runs and timely hits, proved too much for Detroit despite their early fight. This win keeps the Twins’ momentum strong as they head into their weekend series, while Keaschall’s reach-base streak cements him as a player to watch this season.
