The Milwaukee Brewers showcased offensive firepower and pitching prowess in a commanding 10-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, completing a three-game sweep at PNC Park. The Brewers took early control and never looked back, handing Pirates top prospect Bubba Chandler a difficult first start in the majors.
Andrew Vaughn delivered a standout performance, collecting four hits, including three singles and a double, marking his first four-hit game since August 2024. Vaughn's hot bat set the tone and provided consistent production throughout the lineup.
Rookie pitcher Jacob Misiorowski impressed in his start, cruising through seven innings with just one run allowed on three hits. Misiorowski struck out eight batters and set a personal best by pitching deeper than six innings for the first time in his major league career, improving his record to 5-2.
Highly-touted prospect Bubba Chandler faced trouble early and could not recover, giving up nine runs on nine hits and three walks over 2 2/3 innings. It was a tough outing that saw his ERA soar, and he managed just three strikeouts before departing in the third inning.
The Brewers struck quickly, with their first five batters reaching base in the first inning. Jake Bauers contributed a two-run double, followed by an RBI single from Vaughn, and Caleb Durbin added another run with a groundout. The offense continued to roll in the second and third innings, including a Danny Jansen double and runs scored on a wild pitch, as well as RBI hits from Blake Perkins and Brice Turang during a four-run third.
The Pirates found little success against Misiorowski, scoring just once on a Liover Peguero single in the second. Their only other run came in the eighth on a pinch-hit double by Cam Devanney.
In a decisive third-inning sequence, Joey Ortiz appeared to hit into an inning-ending double play, but upon review, the call was overturned. Vaughn scored on the force out, and Brice Turang followed with a two-run single to break the game open for Milwaukee.
Bubba Chandler's ERA ballooned from 2.25 to 7.36 after back-to-back rough outings, allowing 12 runs over his past 6 2/3 innings after opening his major league stint with eight scoreless innings.
The Brewers head to Texas with Jose Quintana (11-5, 3.72 ERA) set to take the mound, facing Rangers left-hander Jacob Latz (1-0, 3.15 ERA). The Pirates move on to a series in Baltimore, where Mike Burrows (2-4, 4.08 ERA) will handle starting duties for the opener against the Orioles.
The Milwaukee Brewers completed a dominant road sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates, led by Andrew Vaughn's four-hit afternoon and a strong, seven-inning performance from Jacob Misiorowski. The Brewers' offense ignited early against rookie pitcher Bubba Chandler, who struggled in his first MLB start. Milwaukee advances with momentum, while Pittsburgh looks to regroup moving forward. Baseball fans can look forward to continued action as both teams hit the road for their next series.
