Quinn Priester delivered another stellar performance, pitching 5 1/3 strong innings to secure his 12th consecutive decision as the Milwaukee Brewers snapped a three-game skid with an 8-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night.
The Brewers have now won 18 straight games with Priester on the mound, a streak encompassing 15 starts and three relief appearances following an opener. Priester (13-2) carried a shutout into the sixth, allowing two runs and five hits, striking out five, and walking just one batter.
Christian Yelich provided the offensive spark with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, his 28th of the season. The 432-foot blast off the center-field scoreboard extended Milwaukee’s lead and helped put the game out of reach for St. Louis.
The Brewers broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a four-run rally that required just one hit—a bunt single. St. Louis starter Andre Pallante (6-14) opened the inning by walking Jake Bauers and Caleb Durbin. Joey Ortiz’s bunt loaded the bases, and Sal Frelick drew a walk to bring in the first run. Jackson Chourio followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, and an errant throw allowed two more runs to score. Brice Turang’s ground ball brought Frelick home to cap off the inning.
Trailing 5-2 in the seventh, the Cardinals loaded the bases with two outs, threatening to tie the game. Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby induced an inning-ending grounder from Alec Burleson to escape the jam and preserve Milwaukee’s lead.
Priester has now allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of his last 11 outings—including each of his past five appearances—cementing his status as a reliable force in the Brewers rotation.
Milwaukee’s bounce-back win snapped a three-game losing streak after being swept in Texas. The Cardinals have now dropped four in a row and will look to regroup as the series continues.
On Saturday night, Sonny Gray (13-8, 4.45 ERA) is scheduled to start for St. Louis while Jacob Misiorowski (5-2, 4.09 ERA) takes the mound for Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers maintained their status as MLB’s top team with a convincing 8-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, highlighted by Quinn Priester’s 12th consecutive victory and Christian Yelich’s 28th home run. The Brewers’ combined patience at the plate and timely hitting broke the game wide open, while Priester’s stellar pitching continues to fuel Milwaukee’s postseason aspirations. The Cardinals, struggling through a losing streak, look for answers as the series continues. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis on upcoming MLB games and player performances.
