The Chicago Cubs claimed a much-needed 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates with crucial eighth-inning hits at Wrigley Field.
With the game tied in the eighth inning, Kyle Tucker ignited the rally with a leadoff single against Evan Sisk (0-1). Tucker promptly stole second base and scored the go-ahead run when Seiya Suzuki delivered a clutch single into center field. Following an intentional walk to Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner contributed a two-out RBI double to extend the Cubs' lead.
Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham provided an early highlight for Pittsburgh with a home run, but it wasn't enough to overcome the late Cubs surge.
Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga was excellent, working seven innings while holding the Pirates to just three hits. Andrew Kittredge (3-3) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to pick up the win, and Brad Keller closed out the game in the ninth for his first save of the season.
Chicago improved its record to 69-53, rebounding after dropping four of its previous five games, including a close 3-2 loss to the Pirates in the series opener. The Pirates, now 52-72, continue to struggle and have lost six of their last seven games.
The Chicago Cubs broke through late for a 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, powered by Seiya Suzuki's tiebreaking single and strong pitching from Shota Imanaga. The win helps the Cubs regain momentum in their playoff race, while the Pirates' struggles continue as the season progresses. This important result could have implications for both teams as they move forward in the MLB season.
