HOUSTON -- — Christian Walker was a force at the plate, hitting a home run among his three hits and driving in a season-high four runs to power the Houston Astros to a 10-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.
Jose Altuve also contributed significantly with two hits, reaching a career milestone of 2,300 hits. He joins Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (2,342) as the only active players with at least 2,300 career hits.
The Astros offense got started early in the first inning. With two outs, Jose Altuve hit an RBI double. Christian Walker followed immediately with a home run to left field off White Sox starter Sean Burke, quickly giving Houston a 3-0 lead.
Houston extended their lead in the third inning. Altuve singled with two outs, and Yainer Diaz walked. Christian Walker delivered again, smacking a line drive double to center field that scored both runners, pushing the lead to 5-0.
More runs came in the fourth. Cam Smith hit a ground-rule double with one out. Jeremy Peña doubled on a ball that bounced off the left field wall for an RBI with two outs, making it 6-0. Isaac Paredes followed with another RBI double, which ended Sean Burke's night. Burke allowed eight hits and seven runs in 3 2/3 innings, both career highs.
Astros starter Ryan Gusto earned the win (4-3), delivering a strong performance. He allowed seven hits and two runs with a season-best seven strikeouts over a season-high six innings.
The White Sox managed to get on the board in the fifth inning. Josh Rojas singled and moved to third on a ground-rule double by Vinny Capra. Rojas scored on a groundout by Mike Tauchman to cut the deficit to 7-1. Miguel Vargas added an RBI single to make it 7-2.
Josh Rojas had two hits for the White Sox, who fell to 7-27 on the road. Isaac Paredes finished with three hits and two RBI for the Astros, helping the team snap a two-game skid.
The series concludes on Thursday night. Houston LHP Framber Valdez (6-4, 3.07 ERA) is scheduled to oppose White Sox RHP Davis Martin (2-6, 3.62).
